Guide to Betting on Accumulators

An accumulator is known all around the world as an Acca and millions of punters spend hours researching the form book in order to have a watertight Acca ready for Saturday afternoon.

What actually is an Acca? I will do my best to spell it all out for you in this extensive guide on soccer accumulator betting. Hopefully, I will explain it clearly enough so that you will be able to create your own Acca with little fuss.

What is a Soccer Accumulator (Acca)?

A soccer Acca is a selection of bets – four or more – and all lumped into one combined bet. The Acca is only successful if all your selections win.

I am keen to point out that a bet with two or three selections is not referred to as an Acca – although some people will still call it that. Having two matches in your bet is known as a double and three is a treble. It is only officially an Acca with four or more. Most bookmakers will allow you to have up to 20 selections in one acca.

The most popular soccer Acca is just the plain and simple Match Result, where you back either the home team to win, the away team to win or the draw. Although that is the popular one, there are a number of other options available to you. Here are some of them:

  • Match Result
  • Both Teams To Score
  • Full Time Result & BTTS
  • Each Half Goals & Corners
  • Each Team Corners Taken & Booking Points
  • Under/Over 0.5 Goals
  • Team To Score 1 Or More Goals
  • To Win Both Halves

How To Create a Soccer Acca

Creating an Acca is straightforward once you know which style of Acca you want. Here is a basic step-by-step guide on what you need to do.

  1. Go to the soccer section on your preferred betting website or app
  2. Find the matches or competitions that are suitable for your Acca
  3. Make your selections – Remember four or more consists of an Acca
  4. Double check your selections
  5. The odds on your Acca will be automatically added
  6. Type in the amount you wish to bet
  7. Place your bet

What does a Soccer Acca look like?

It is easy to create a list on what Accas are available, but sometimes a visual aid is more helpful than words on a screen. Below are a few examples of what your betting slip would look like on selected Accas and what odds you could expect.

Team & Outcome Match Result Odds
Man City v Liverpool – Draw 16/5 (4.20)
Burnley v West Ham – Away Win Evs (2.0)
Luton Town v Crystal Palace – Away Win 11/10 (2.10)
Newcastle United v Chelsea – Away Win 8/5 (2.60)
Nottingham Forest v Brighton – Away Win 23/20 (2.15)
Sheffield United v Bournemouth – Away Win 6/5 (2.20)
Brentford v Arsenal – Away Win 3/4 (1.75)
7-Game Acca (All games combined) 378/1 (379.0)

As I mentioned early, lists are good to get a very brief breakdown of what is available. In this section I will go over the most popular markets that you will settle on when creating your first few Accas.

Selection Brief Summary
Full Time Result This is the most simple style of Acca. You are backing the outcome you think will happen. You back the home or away team to win or just the draw. Add four or more selections to make an Acca.
Both Teams To Score (BTTS) When you see the term BTTS, this relates to both teams scoring inside 90 minutes. You have a choice to make – either yes they will both score or no they won’t, so either a win to nil or 0-0 draw.
Over/Under Goals This is a personal favourite of mine. The more games you choose the better the odds. I normally go with a longer list of matches on the over 1.5 goals market. Backing fewer games with over 2.5 or 3.5 goals will give you better odds for fewer selections. Important to do your research if you go with more goals.
Result & BTTS This market is a true gamble, but that is why you are here. Each selection here is essentially a double because you’re picking the match result and BTTS combined. It is another popular market where recent form plays a major part. Do your research and then select your winning teams with BTTS, or a score draw, for some lucrative odds.

What Is Acca Insurance?

Some bookmakers include Acca insurance in their bets in order for to keep using them by rewarding you if one of your selections lets you down. The prize is normally your original stake back as a free bet to help soften the blow of one team ruining your day – I have had my fair share of one team ruining my day over the years.

Here is a step-by-step guide on how Acca insurance should work, based on a £10 stake:

  1. Pick five or more teams in your Acca
  2. Stake £10 on all teams to win or draw
  3. Four of your selections win and one loses
  4. Normally, that would see your bet
  5. With Acca insurance, that result would not matter and you would be rewarded with your £10 to have another go

Accumulator Pros and Cons

  • Can be subject to boosts
  • Higher potential payouts
  • Ideal for small stakes wagers
  • Plenty of markets to choose from
  • No margin for error

Soccer Accumulator FAQ

🙌 Is an Acca Worth It?

I personally think an Acca is worth it. The more selections you add to your bet, the better the odds. Another reason the Accas are popular is that they are fun to follow.

👍 Are The Odds Generous On An Acca?

If you back four odds-on favourite teams to win in your Acca, then you will not be making much of – if any – profit. You could back the favourites in a 15-team Acca and the odds could be worth it, but it is a risk. Make sure you do your research beforehand.

👍 What Happens If One Team In Your Acca Lets You Down?

If you are just using a normal Acca market – and not a bookmaker special offer – then if one of your teams lets you down the whole bet is finished.
